A few weeks ago I found a new favorite place. And not just anywhere, viz. in Sofia. I used to think that Sofia is a big, gray, dirty and noisy city. But the truth is that I don't know very well the Bulgarian capital. Perhaps this impression will remain for anyone who first visit it... especially if you comparing it to other European capitals. But the truth is, Sofia has its charm and many unique hidden spots in it that reveal another facet of the city.
And now about the place that I found:
I don't know how to call this place, because it is many things. For a start... this place is an apartment which is called A:part:mental. It's something like a sort of private club. A:part:mental is located in the second floor of a turn of the 19th century mansion. There are no signs. Someone should show you this place because it is a little bit difficult to find it. Reminds me in this regard to Donau (one bar in Vienna, about which I already wrote here)
In A:part:mental you can choose in which room to stay, and each room itself looks completely different... Every room is in different style. There is a library where you can read books or magazines, a room with a piano where you can play, a small cinema room where there are 2 shows every evening but if there is nothing running you can go in and pick movie out of the list and watch the projection. In the different rooms there are temporary photo or picture exhibitions.

The guests can also change the atmosphere of the place if they want. For example they are allowed to change the playlist and to control the music in the room. There is also a live gallery where the guest can draw something on the walls.
There is a computer in every room that you can use to go online, but all of the rooms have Wi-fi. You can play chess, Go or backgammon. From the kitchen you can find home made cakes, creams, chocolate, wine, fresh fruit nectars, Himalayan tea... Also combinations of cold fruit and herbal teas.
I don't know how many hours I spent there, it was really cozy. It feels like you are visiting the home of a grandmother.
A:part:mental is place for the artists and their creations, exhibitions, concerts, performances and workshops are regularly organized. It's something like collaboration between café, bar, restaurant, library, gallery, club.
We have talk many times with V. about how someday we will shed our jobs and we will make a bar. I think this is a dream of many people and everyone thought about this at same point in his life. We have a very detailed idea about our bar and when I found the A:part:mental, it made me feel somehow jealous because someone has already done what we exactly wanted. Now we are in the search of more original ideas.
